Dear All
For your information … from Ruth Saunders of the SOS Group ...
I’m one of the members of the SOS Group – an apolitical group that is concerned about the changes TfL are proposing to Shepherd’s Bush roundabout.
TfL would like to add a 3rd cycle lane on Shepherd’s Bush Roundabout which already has 2 well-used, historically safe cycle routes. This will mean removing 3 traffic lanes, one on Holland Park Avenue, one on the roundabout itself and one down to Shepherd’s Bush Green – creating congestion on the roundabout and pushing traffic into local streets in Brook Green, Addison, Shepherd’s Bush and Hammersmith Grove.
We are pro-cycling and so have worked with local residents to develop a better alternative, upgrading the existing cycling infrastructure around the roundabout periphery which is already popular and historically safe. Please see the attached leaflet for more detail.
Less than 12% of residents and 30% of cyclists support the scheme but TfL want to push ahead. But TfL can only go ahead if Hammersmith & Fulham Council approves this scheme. So we are
- Encouraging Hammersmith & Fulham Council to reject the scheme and upgrade the existing 2 cycleways first
- Asking local H&F residents to sign a petition to reject TfL’s proposal, which already has over 1,200 signatures https://www.change.org/p/stop-tfl-s-plan-to-gridlock-shepherd-s-bush-roundabout
We would very much welcome local Hammersmith & Fulham residents’ associations to come onboard, for example to
- Notify their residents to sign the petition
- Raise their objections with the council
Could we tempt you to a Teams call with us to take you through the proposed TfL scheme and resultant issues, as well as the residents’ alternative?
Thank you,
Ruth Saunders
