We are inviting you to take part in a public consultation on the renewal of the Responsible Consumption of Alcohol PSPO.
Many of our parks, open spaces and town centre locations are well-used community assets. However, reports from residents, park users and partner agencies indicate that alcohol-related anti-social behaviour can sometimes have a negative impact on people’s enjoyment of these spaces, making some individuals feel uncomfortable and unsafe.
The proposed PSPO would provide authorised officers and police with additional powers to require individuals to stop drinking or surrender their alcohol where their behaviour is causing, or likely to cause, anti-social behaviour. It is important to note that this is not a blanket ban on drinking alcohol in public spaces. The powers would be used proportionately where alcohol consumption is linked to anti-social behaviour.
As a Friends of Parks group, your views are particularly important. You have valuable insight into how local parks and green spaces are used, the challenges they face, and the impact anti-social behaviour can have on residents, volunteers and visitors.
We would welcome your feedback on:
- Whether the proposed PSPO would address these issues
- Any concerns you have about the proposal
- Any specific locations or issues that should be considered
